HALIFAX – Student Housing Nova Scotia is expanding to meet the growing needs of students attending Acadia University. With the purchase of 59 Hillside Avenue, it will provide non-profit housing to students in Wolfville for years to come.
“Student Housing Nova Scotia has offered safe, reliable, and affordable housing to thousands of students at below market rates for over fifty years,” said Mitchell Archibald, Executive Director of Student Housing Nova Scotia. “We are very excited to begin our expansion in Wolfville.”
The announcement reflects the first step in Student Housing Nova Scotia’s plan to expand the availability of non-profit housing in communities across the province.
“Nova Scotia has seen the highest rate of rental inflation in the country this past year, an increase of 14%,” added Archibald. “Waiting lists for student housing are expanding, and the province needs creative, non-profit solutions to help address the crisis.”
In Canada, students pay 25% more than an average renter. A recent report showed that Wolfville will be short 800 new units over the next few years, now is the time to invest in housing to address the housing shortage.
“This announcement is just one of the ways that Student Housing NS is scaling up to meet the growing of students in our province. This pivotal investment creates a growing new vision for the future of student housing, attracts people to the community, and stimulates the economy,” Archibald concluded.
