Halifax Student Housing Society’s Executive Director Joins Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association’s Board of Directors
The Halifax Student Housing Society would like to congratulate our Executive Director, Mitchell Archibald, on his appointment to the Board of the Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association (NSNPHA). This reinforces our commitment to advancing housing initiatives and reflects our support for the NSNPHA and its mission.
As a recognized leader in non-profit governance, Mitchell will bring invaluable expertise to the NSNPHA’s Board. His passion for expanding affordable and accessible student housing solutions aligns seamlessly with the association’s mission to empower and grow the sustainability of Nova Scotia’s non-profit housing sector.
“We are thrilled to see Mitchell appointed to the NSNPHA’s Board. This appointment is a testament to his dedication to improving housing in our province, and we are confident that he will make valuable contributions to the association’s success during this important period of growth,” said Silvia Marin-Dragu, HSHS Board Chair.
“I am both excited and honoured to join the NSNPHA Board,” said Mitchell. “I look forward to supporting the association and the important work it does to support organizations like ours that seek to address the housing challenges facing communities across Nova Scotia.”
Mitchell has also been appointed as Secretary, and will serve as a member of the NSNPHA Board’s executive. Both appointments are effective February 20, 2024.

As the largest non-profit student housing organization in Atlantic Canada, the Halifax Student Housing Society (HSHS) currently provides over 100 affordable rental units to full-time university students studying in Halifax, offering residents safe, secure, comfortable, and affordable housing in a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere. For more than 50 years, HSHS is proud to have housed thousands of students, and continue to provide the most affordable dedicated student housing in Halifax. As the only non-profit student housing organization in the region, HSHS also acts as a proponent and advocate for non-profit and student focused housing by working with governments, universities, and other stakeholders to advance non-profit student housing solutions, and promoting dedicated housing for students that meets their needs. HSHS is currently preparing to launch an exciting new provincial direction, and expand its mission to bring housing to even more students.
About the Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association
The Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association (NSNPHA) was founded in 2023 after two years of extensive consultations with hundreds of people. The NSNPHA is dedicated to supporting, growing, and mobilizing the non-profit housing sector. The association is a non-profit, membership-based organization governed by a diverse board of directors. The NSNPHA forms strategic partnerships and centralizes people, resources, and activity to support the work of the non-profit housing sector. They are a voice for the non-profit housing sector in Nova Scotia at the provincial and national levels.
