Sadie McAlear joins Student Housing Nova Scotia as Manager of the DASH Fund Campaign

Student Housing Nova Scotia is thrilled to welcome Sadie McAlear to our team as Manager of our Developing Affordable Student Housing (DASH) Fund campaign for Winter 2025.

Sadie is a passionate leader and advocate with an extensive background and strong commitment to addressing the challenges facing students in our province. Sadie has a Bachelor of Community Development from Acadia University, having previously served two terms as President of the Acadia Students’ Union (ASU) and on Acadia’s Board of Governors. During that time she also served as Chair of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) and Vice Chair of Students Nova Scotia.

Sadie has a deep understanding of the post-secondary sector and the housing issues students are experiencing, and her leadership and expertise will be instrumental in driving the DASH Fund campaign forward in the coming months.

Over the next four months Sadie will lead our efforts to bring the DASH Fund to campuses,  helping us to create secure and affordable housing solutions for students across the province.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We work and live in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726.

The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but in fact, recognized Mi’kmaq and Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

Student Housing Nova Scotia acknowledges the Peace & Friendship Treaties signed in this Territory and recognizes that we are all Treaty People.

We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors of African descent who came before us to this land.
